Biratnagar metropolis mulling forming own planning commission



KATHMANDU: The Biratnagar Metropolitan City has come up with a plan to establish a separate planning commission for the holistic development of the city.

For this, the metropolis called and organized a meeting of experts and related personalities and sought suggestion on a temporary, mid-term and long-term plan. The attending experts suggested an increment of the city’s income by bringing all under tax system.

The metropolis would work for the entire development of the city, said the metropolis mayor Nagesh Koirala. “The metropolis has come up with a plan to develop the city by making a development model. We are at work for this,” he said.

In the preliminary phase, suggestion was being collected to make a periodic plan for the development project, he said. The metropolis would ease delivery of service through the use of technology at maximum, said the metropolis deputy mayor Shilpa Niraula Karki.

In the first phase, intellectuals and representatives from various social organizations took part in the meeting.

The meeting was participated by Prof. Dr PK Jha, economist Dr Bhesh Prasad Dhamala, senior advocates Bharat Thapa and Binaya Raj Pandey, chief of the Mahendra Morang Campus Prof Dr Baburam Timsina, intellectual Dinesh Shrestha, chair of the Elite Club Bishwonath Rijal and general secretary Yagya Sharma, chair of the Birateshwor old age home Jagat Prasad Ajyal, chair of the Birat Sahitya Sangam Madhu Pokharel, litterateur Ram Babu Dahal, chairperson of the ABC Nepal Bishnu Sharma, chairperson of the Public Forum Uttam Dhungel and youth activist Basanta Adhikari among others.
