KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has urged Nepali migrant workers living across the globe to open USD accounts in Nepal and contribute towards the prosperity of the country.
Addressing a webinar organized by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) on Monday, Minister Sharma urged the Nepali migrants to open USD accounts sating that it will help generate investments and employment opportunities in Nepal.
Sharma during the meeting said that that the government is doing homework on creating the environment conducive for foreign investment in the country.
The governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Maha Prasad Adhikari said that the central bank has introduced this rule and that the fee for opening the account has been reduced to USD 5,000. Earlier it was USD 10,000.
Some banks have already started opening accounts in foreign currencies, said Adhikari.
Finance Secretary Madhu Marasini said the bank accounts could be opened in the past, too. The government has facilitated it further. Marasini further said that the dollars deposited in the Nepali banks can help generate employment opportunities in the country itself.
NRNA President Kumar Panta said that the government’s policy will help Nepali people living across the globe to send their money to Nepal.
