UML registers with Election Commission for Nov 20 election

The CPN-UML has registered the party with the Election Commission for the upcoming federal assembly and state assembly elections.

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Deputy General Secretaries Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Bishnu Rimal and other leaders reached the Election Commission on Tuesday to register the party.

UML has been registered at the 10th number.

PM Deuba holds talks with Khanal, Dr Bhattarai

A delegation led by the CPN Unified Socialist honored leader Jhalanath Khanal and Nepal Samajbadi Party Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai met with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Tuesday.

Khanal called PM Deuba’s attention to the imposition of 40 percent tax on Nepali tea by India.

Dr Bhattarai held discussion on the matters related to ruling coalition, election alliance in upcoming polls and contemporary political affairs, informed NSP central member Biswodeep Pandey.

Provinces to maintain uniformity in conducting driving license test

All seven provinces have agreed to issue driving licenses in the same manner.

This comes after transport ministers of all seven provinces called on Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Mohammad Ishtiyaq Rayi, and decided to maintain uniformity in driving license tests in line with the recent driving license test directive.

The Department of Transport Management has set new rules for the driving license test.

Accordingly, all seven provinces agreed to follow the new rules and issue driving licenses on a point-based system.

Maoist Chair Prachanda meets Japan’s senior LDP leader Nikai

CPN Maoist Center’s Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, who is on five-day Japan visit, held a meeting with Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP) senior leader Toshihiro Nikai on Tuesday.

LDP is currently the ruling party in Japan. Nikai is the LDP’s former general secretary, former economy, trade and industry minister and is the member in the House of Representatives.

Dalikeh resident having derogatory name on citizenship submits application to change name

A person has applied to change his name on his citizenship after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice with a request to change the derogatory names given at the time of citizenship.

Kabi Ram Kami applied to the Dailekh District Administration Office (DAO) on Tuesday to change his name on his citizenship. His first name on the citizenship was “Kukur” (dog), said DAO Dailekh.

As soon as the application was received, the DAO wrote to the District Police Office and Bhagwatimai Rural Municipality to verify information regarding the application.

Reshuffle in parliamentary committees

Members of various parliamentary committees have been reshuffled.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota made the changes in the members of these committees in accordance with the Rule 172 of the House of Representatives Regulations 2075.

The House of Representatives meeting had approved the proposed reshuffling proposal.

NEPSE falls by 45 points to close at 2,060 

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 45.42 points to close at 2,060.73 points on Tuesday.

The market opened for trading at 2,109.79 points. The benchmark index started a downward journey from the very beginning of trading and eventually closed 2.16 percent lower than previous day.

All the trading groups ended the day in red with the maximum loss coming from the ‘Others’ sub-index which was down by 4.84 percent. Finance, Development Bank and Trading groups also went down by 3.37, 3.28 and 3.18 percent, respectively.

KMC, Norvic Hospital to form joint task force to study encroachment of public land

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Norvic International Hospital have agreed to form a task force to the encroachment of public land.

KMC Mayor Balendra Shah, who had given Norvic Hospital a 24-hour ultimatum to remove the structure built on encroached public land, visited the hospital on Tuesday to see if the hospital abided by the KMC directive.

The hospital told Mayor Shah that it had legally leased the public land and was using the built structures as storage facility for essential oxygen and medical equipment.

Later, KMC and the hospital agreed to form a task force comprising technical members from both sides.

Nepal sees 1,090 new coronavirus cases, two deaths in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 1,090 new cases of coronavirus and two deaths in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 560 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 530 through the Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 6,300 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Of them, 2,958 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 3,342 through the Antigen method.
