KATHMANDU: The government is making preparations to distribute electric stoves free of cost to the students living in rented rooms in the Kathmandu Valley.

The Center for Promotion of Alternative Energy, a government institution, has demanded applications for the distribution of electric induction to the students of Indigenous nationalities, Dalit, and marginalized communities.

According to the Center, students from government and community educational institutions studying at the university level will be able to apply by June 25.

To avail of such a facility, the students will have to submit a copy of the citizenship certificates along with the application and the student identity card and recommendation letter of the educational institution.

Recommendations of the concerned local units have also been sought to reveal the identity of indigenous nationalities, Dalits, and marginalized communities.

Earlier, the Center had also requested a free electric stove for students studying in Kathmandu from remote and inaccessible places.

About 10,000 applications were received during the period.

The Center has said that the program is aimed at increasing the domestic consumption of electricity and supporting the government’s objective of replacing cooking gas with electric stoves.
