“EC all prepared to hold election in safe, peaceful and credible way”

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has said the Election Commission (EC) was all prepared to hold the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly in a safe, peaceful and credible way.

Voting for the twin elections is taking place on coming November 20 in a single phase.

Launching the Joint Election Operation Center at the Election Commission today, he said the EC was all prepared to make the voting and the vote counts fully secured with the aim of making election results fully credible.

President Bhandari heads to Iceland

President Bidya Devi Bhandari left Kathmandu this evening on a six-day-long official visit to Iceland.

President Bhandari is to attend Reykjavík Global Forum – Women Leaders being held in Reykjavík of Iceland on 8-10 November 2022.

The Forum is co-hosted by Women Political Leaders (WPL), the Government of Iceland, and the Parliament of Iceland.

It may be noted that Women Political Leaders (WPL) has decided to confer the prestigious WPL Trailblazer Award this year on President Bhandari.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Bhandari is scheduled to receive the Award and deliver an acceptance speech.

Nepal, ADB sign agreement for Rs 12.14 billion horticulture project

The government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have reached an agreement for the investments in the nuts and fruits in the hilly area project.

The government bears about $14.5 million (approximately Rs 1.88 billion) for the project while a $60 million (around Rs 7.79 billion) concessional loan from the Ordinary Capital Resources.

Similarly, the financing includes a $10 million (approximately Rs 1.30 billion) grant from the Asian Development Fund, and the ADB will administer a $9 million (around Rs 1.17 billion) grant from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program.

Farmers bear the brunt due to delay in fixing floor price of paddy

Farmers have been forced to bear the brunt as the government has delayed fixing the floor price for paddy.

The government had determined the minimum support price of paddy around mid-September last year.

The farmers have felt uneasy while being busy harvesting paddy at most places across the country owing to the delay in fixing the floor price of paddy on the part of the government.

Farmers have felt cheated as the local merchants have started to purchase paddy at a cheap price.

Stakeholders view that the fixation of the support price of paddy is unlikely before the election due to the code of conduct.

Stable government needed: UML Chair Oli

CPN UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that only a stable government can ensure development and prosperity.

Addressing an election rally in Burtibang of Baglung on Monday, Chairman Oli said a robust force should be there in place for the government formation.

Oli was of the view that nation building processes could not take place in case of a weak government.

A single party’s powerful government can carry out the developmental works as per the people’s aspirations, Oli added.

Unified Socialist party expels five Jumla leaders

CPN-Unified Socialist Party has expelled five leaders of Jumla district from the party on Monday.

Issuing a statement today, Unified Socialist party General Secretary Beduram Bhusal notified that five leaders from Jumla, including central member Devi Lal Thapa, leader Adi Prasad Neupane, have been dismissed from the party responsibilities and party committee for conspiring against  the party.

Neupane is the Jumla district chairman of the party.

Health of Prachanda’s wife Sita further deteriorates

Sita Dahal, wife of Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, who has been ill for a long time, is “critical”, her family sources said.

Sita, who was discharged only a few days ago after her health improved, was admitted to the Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur on Saturday. She is currently being treated in the ICU.

Outstanding amount of refinance issued by NRB stands at Rs 108.49 billion until mid-September

The outstanding amount of refinance provided by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) remained Rs.108.49 billion in mid-September 2022.

As of mid-September 2022, the outstanding concessional loan is Rs. 213.23 billion extended to 147,926 borrowers.

Of which, Rs.139.67 billion has been extended to 60,302 borrowers for selected commercial agriculture and livestock businesses, the Central Bank stated in the Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report released in October.

The Report is based on two months’ data ending Mid-September, FY 2022/23.

NEPSE loses 6.43 points to close at 1,958.94

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 6.43 points to close at 1,958.94 points on Monday.

Similarly, the sensitive index fell 2.19 points to close at 385.33 points.

A total of 4,944,076 units of shares of 224 companies were traded for Rs 2.109 billion.

Only five sub-indices closed green as the rest out of total 13 closed red.

Nepal sees 15 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 15 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Monday.

Of the confirmed cases,  all 26 cases were detected through the RT-PCR method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 1,548 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
