Govt plans to build heliport in Bhaktapur to manage air traffic at TIA

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to establish a heliport in Bhaktapur to manage air traffic at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu. Helicopters have also contributed to air traffic congestion at TIA.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) said it had already signed an agreement with contractors for construction of the new heliport in Nalinchok in Bhaktapur.

The government has allocated Rs 250 million for the project in the current fiscal year’s annual budget plan.

The CAAN wants to complete the project within this fiscal year (which ends in mid-July 2023), however, it might take more time for building additional terminals.

The heliport will accommodate over 20 helicopters at once.

The CAAN hoped the heliport would help the Kathmandu airport, TIA, manage traffic in a more efficient manner.
