Upper House lawmakers draw govt’s attention to contemporary issues



KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, have drawn the government’s attention on country’s contemporary issues.

Speaking in zero hour of Tuesday’s NA meeting, they drew government’s attention on various issues, including the need to increase women’s candidacies in coming election and control dengue disease.

On the occasion, Anita Devkota requested all political parties to increase number of women candidates towards first-past-the-post election keeping the sentiments of the constitution in coming election of the House of Representatives and Province Assembly in mind.

She drew government’s attention to take effective step immediately to spray pesticide destroying the mosquito larva and spread awareness in order to control dengue disease.

Saying around 36,000 teachers and staffs working at government schools across the country have been launching agitation since long putting forth various demands, Dil Kumari Thapa (Parbati) asked the government to make arrangement of salary as per their position. She urged the government to resolve the problems of loan shark victims.

Similarly, Dr Bimala Rai Poudyal said all individuals holding public posts taking salary from people’s tax are people’s servants, not rulers. She expressed the view that the individual holding the public post should apologize for his behavior upon the worker.
