Temporary Police deployed across country



KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have started deploying temporary police personnel across the country for election security.

According to the integrated security plan of the government, a total of 115,000 temporary policemen have been selected for the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assemblies (PA) slated for November 20.

The temporary policemen have been deployed in groups and can be sighted in major road intersections alongside the city and market places across the country.

The temporary policemen/women were seen standing along the major areas of Kathmandu, including Gaushala, New Baneshwor, New Road and Koteshwor among others, on Friday assisting traffic management and inspecting the implementation of election code of conduct.

According to Nepal Police, the temporary officers were sent to different units as per the necessity.

Physically and mentally fit Nepalis aged 18-54 years were selected for the temporary post of police on the basis of different training criteria from respective district police offices.

Similarly, former security personnel, those with security experience and previous temporary police were prioritized for selection.

The temporary policemen will be provided Rs. 34,760 for 40-day service during the elections. They will also receive Rs. 7,200 as ration allowance, Rs. 6,000 for uniform (additional Rs. 1,000 in Himalayan districts), Rs. 1,000 for transport and a snack allowance of Rs. 300 per day for four days.
