Dr Koirala holding a discussion with leaders close to him today

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala is holding a “review meeting” of the party’s recently-concluded general convention with leaders close to him.

Koirala will discuss with the leaders who had been central member candidates in the party’s 14th general convention at a hotel near Singha Durbar on Wednesday afternoon.

He also held a discussion with the leaders on Tuesday as well.

Of the 13 candidates vying for as many posts of office-bearers in the NC 14th convention from the Koirala faction, only four were elected.

Four office bearers elected from the Koirala panel are NC Vice-president Dhan Raj Gurung, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, and joint general secretaries Badri Pandey and Jeevan Pariyar.

However, other leaders of the Koirala camp, who were defeated, have yet to secure the nomination to the Central Working Committee (CWC).

The party president receives the prerogative to nominate as many as 33 members to the CWC.

Meanwhile, NC President Deuba has already nominated 13 leaders to the CWC, including those losing election from his camp.

Dr. Koirala automatically became a central member as per NC statute despite losing the presidency to President Deuba.
