PM Deuba inaugurates waste processing plant in Dharan

DHARAN: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has inaugurated a waste processing plant set up in Dharan Tuesday.

The plant produces gas and fertilizer as well. Although preparations were made since last April to test the plant, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as some works of it were incomplete.

The plant has been inaugurated today with the completion of all works. Province 1 Minister for Physical Planning and Works Himal Karki, Dharan Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Tilak Rai, Deputy Mayor and CPN (UML) Central Committee member Manju Bhandari, among the officials, were present on the occasion.

Venture Waste to Energy has constructed the waste processing plant at Panbari of Dharan sub-metropolis- 6. Project engineer Bibek Agrawal said the plant has been set up with a view to producing gas and manure by managing the solid waste generated in the sub-metropolis. The waste processing plant is of 50 metric tons capacity and it will be handed over to the Dharan sub-metropolis after 20 years. The sub-metropolis has no investment in the project.

The LP Gas produced from the plant would be supplied as fuel to the auto rickshaws operating in Dharan. The plant has the capacity of generating 2,000 kg gas daily, according to the project proprietors. The plant has capacity to provide gas to 400 to 500 auto rickshaws on a daily basis. The plant spreads on one bigha two kaththas area.

Mayor Rai said that the waste of the sub-metropolis would be managed in a sustainable way with the operation of the plant.
