EC allows parties, election candidates to hold rallies, mass meetings from today

The Election Commission (EC) has allowed political parties and election candidates to organize rallies, mass assemblies and corner meetings in course of electioneering from today.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has urged the parties and candidates to safeguard the sanctity of the election and comply with the election code of conduct as the election campaign enters the second phase from November 3 that begins today (Thursday).

Alliance imperative for coming days: PM Deuba

Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the ruling alliance is imperative for coming days.

PM Deuba, who reached home district Dadeldhura, in course of election campaigning made such remark on Thursday.

He reminded that the five-party alliance was formed after the UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli attempted to destroy constitution. The alliance was made to save democracy and constitution, PM Deuba argued.

All should join hands to forge progressive power to win election: Chair Dahal

CPN Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has laid emphasis that all should involve to make progressive power win the election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly member.

Addressing the introduction of candidates of Left Democratic Alliance from Gorkha for HoR and Province Assembly member election organised here today, Chair Dahal urged the leaders and cadres not to take this election as a general election as this election is different than other election.

A new journey of development and prosperity would begin from Gorkha, he mentioned, adding political change would not be long-lasting until winning people’s heart through economic prosperity.

Rastriya Swatantra Party emphasizes directly-elected PM

The Rastriya Swatantra Party led by Rabi Lamichhane in its “commitment letter” unveiled today has emphasized “directly-elected” Prime Minister.

Lamichhane and other leaders of the party unveiled what has been dubbed a “pledge letter” in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The party has fielded candidacies for the House of Representatives (HoR).

However, it has not fielded any candidate for the Provincial Assembly election.

According to general secretary Mukul Dhakal, the party has emphasized a “directly –elected” prime minister, and an independent (non-political) President.

Three Communist parties to boycott elections

Three communist parties, including the Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand Biplav, have decided to boycott the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections to be held on November 20.

According to the leader of the Nepal Communist Party Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma Prakanda, the Biplav-led party, the Nepal Communist Party headed by Rishi Kattel and the Baiganik Samajbadi Communist Party Nepal headed by Ahuti decided to boycott the election.

Green hydrogen finds space in political parties’ election manifesto

Political parties have raised the issue of green hydrogen with priority in the election manifesto prepared in view of the elections to the Member of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly.

Maoist Centre’s senior vice chair Naryan Kaji Shrestha stressed the need of taking the nation towards the path of economic prosperity by implementing the Constitution that has institutionalized our political achievements.

The hearing on the rape case against the suspended captain of Nepal’s National Cricket Team, Sandeep Lamichhane, is to continue on Friday.

The hearing on the case will continue on Friday as the closing arguments of the case against Lamichhane could not be completed even today.

Today, eight lawyers argued on behalf of defendant Lamichhane.

NEPSE loses 16.14 points to close at 1,922.16 points on Thursday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) lost 16.14 points to close at 1,922.16 points on Thursday.

Similarly, the sensitive index fell 3.50 points to close at 379.43 points.

A total of 2,767,539 units of shares of 220 companies were traded for Rs 898 million.

Likewise, all the sub-indices saw red, except for Non-Life Insurance and Life Insurance.

Parliamentary special panel recommends to keep 15 federal and five provincial ministries

The National Assembly’s parliamentary special committee for federalism study, implementation and monitoring has recommended to have only 15 federal ministries and 5 state ministries.

The National Assembly formed special panel on Jestha 20, 2079 (June 3, 2022) to study the political, financial, and administrative foundations for the implementation of federalism and prepare a report with appropriate recommendations.

The committee chaired by Khimlal Devkota delivered its report and recommendations to Speaker of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timalsina on Thursday.

Nepal sees 49 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 49 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

Of the confirmed cases, 45 cases were detected through the RT-PCR method and four through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 2,312 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
