First-ever women’s open golf tournament concludes



KATHMANDU: The country’s first ever women’s open golf tournament has concluded on Saturday.

The first ever women’s golf tournament was organized by lady captain Arsiya Banu, Nepal’s number one female golfer Pratima Sherpa and journalist Saritashree Gyawali at Royal Nepal Golf Club on Saturday.

Chief guest of the tournament President Bidya Devi Bhandari presented medals and prizes to the winners of the tournament.

Susma Sigdel bagged the first prize while Kashmira Shah the second prize at the tournament held organized by Lady Captain Arsia Banu, Nepal’s number one female golfer Pratima Sherpa and journalist Saritashree Gyawali, on Saturday.

President Bhandari presented winner Sigdel with a medal and certificate along with a scooter.

The slogan of the tournament was empowerment of women golfers.

According to Pratima Sherpa, one of the organizers, Sigdel won the stable format competition having 3,4 handicaps with 40 scores.

Second place winner Shah also won the award for most birdies by hitting 3 birdies.

Similarly, Rekha Ghimire became the champion with 37 scores in the seniors category and Kalyani Moktan finished second.

Likewise, other winners were given attractive prizes, including bicycles, Turkish Airlines tickets and others.

Chief guest Bhandari was of the view that the concerned bodies of the state should coordinate properly for the promotion of golf, especially women golf.

Special guest of the event Sapna Malla Pradhan, who is also a golfer, said the game benefited not only physically but also socially and mentally.

President of the Royal Nepal Golf Club Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha praised the women players saying that this was the first time such a competition was held in the club.
