Rs 10,000 fine slapped on Rajpur’s mayor for not providing information



KATHMANDU: The National Information Commission imposed a fine amounting to Rs 10,000 on mayor of Rajpur Municipality in Rautahat district for not providing information to the information seeker.

The Commission made the decision on the appeal made by Ekamul Haq of Rajpur municipality-1 from the same district. Haq had sought a certified copy of the details of quarantined persons in the municipality during COVID-19 pandemic, expenses borne by the municipality and number of blankets procured among others.

The information was sough as per the Right to Information Act-2064 BS and an appeal was made with the Commission making information officer and mayor of the municipality as opponents.

In a press statement issued by the Commission here today, it was said that the Commission had repeatedly ordered the Municipality to provide information and made aware of the action as well.

Despite that, the Mayor continued not providing the information sought by Haq.

The Commission then decided to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 as per the Section Right to Information Act-2064 BS, Section 32, sub-section and ordered the Mayor to provide the information, according to Ratna Prasad Mainali, the spokesperson of the Commission.
