Nepal-led Unified Socialist forms High Command to elect ministers for govt

PM Deuba to give six to seven ministries

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) has decided to join the government at a time when Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is rendering efforts to expand the government.

Preparations are underway to give six to seven ministries to the Madhav Kumar-led Unified Socialist.

It is learnt that ruling NC is planning to strike a balance by giving the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to the Unified Socialist.

A meeting of the Unified Socialist on Friday formed a High Command until officer bearers are elected through the National Council.  The High Command has been formed from the leaders who were earlier Standing Committee members of the CPN-UML.

Chairman Madav Kumar Nepal, senior leader Jhana Nath Khanal, Mukunda Neupane, Beduram Bhusal and Pramosh Hamal are in the High Command. All the other leaders elected to High Command were SC members except Hamal. This High Command will select the list of ministers to participate in the government, said Neupane.

The Unified Socialist will convene a national conclave soon and then the National Council will sit and select a politburo and a standing committee with 17 office bearers. Neupane said that the names of the ministers who will join the government will be decided once the distribution of ministries is completed.
