UML leader Nepal recommends Khanal for second chairman of party

Skeptical about Oli’s offer

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has floated a proposal to make Jhala Nath Khanal as the second chairman of the party.

Leader Nepal made such a recommendation after second rung leaders heaped pressure on him for the party unity saying that party chairman KP Sharma Oli is ready to make him the second chairman of the party.

He further said that it would be acceptable to him even if a second rung leader is given this responsibility.

“If Chairman Oli is ready to do so, he can give the responsibility of the second chairman of the party to senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal or to a second rung leader of the party. It will be acceptable to me,” a leader privy to the meeting quoted Nepal as saying.

Leader Nepal is skeptical about Chairman’s Oli’s offer to make the second chairman of the party.

It has been already seven years since the Ninth General Convention of the CPN-UML was held in 2071 BS.  The general convention should be held every five years as per the party statute.

Besides, a leader should retire from the party politics once he reaches 70 years. There have been voices growing that Oli should step down from the responsibility of the chairman.
