Maoist Center ensures 35% women participation in party committees

Standing Committee meeting held Tuesday approves interim legislation of the party



KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to ensure 35% participation of women in all party committees.

A meeting of Standing Committee (SC) called for earlier Tuesday approved party legislation with provision for 35% women participation in all party committees, including Central Committee (CC).

A interim legislation endorsed by SC meeting will be presented to CC meeting for immediate implementation of the provision.

Maoist Center leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said at least one women should be among the office-bearers of all party committees. Moreover, party committees ought to also have 20% participation of youths aged below 40.

Likewise, minimum representation of Dalit communities in party’s CC will stand at 15%. Similarly, Dalit representation will be 2% more than their total percentage from the total population in province, district and rural municipality.

As per new legislation, the Central Committee (CC) will have a maximum of 299 members and at the center there will be a team of office-bearers comprising Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, Secretary and Treasurer.

The SC meeting kept several issues open for discussion such as formation of party committees, election, evaluation of cadres, office term and age limit for leaders and cadres in rank and file.
