SURKHET: A fire that broke out at Tila-7, Gothigaun, Pokhari in Jumla has engulfed 32 houses and taken the lives of more than 70 cattle.

According to Karnali Province Police Office, Surkhet, the fire has caused damage worth millions though no human casualties have been reported so far.

The Police informed that the fire broke out from the cooking stove at Par Bahadur Rokaya’s house.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the fire started from the sparks that caught Par Bahadur’s roof getting it ablaze,” the police said adding, “Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal and the locals have strived hard to bring the fire under control and now the fire is under control.”

According to DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle, the details of the loss and damage are still to come but primary investigation shows more than Rs 30 million has been damaged by the fire.

DSP Kafle added that the lack of road link, sloping settlements and the houses built in the series made it difficult to curb the fire on time.
