Hotelier killed, five injured in Bhaktapur cooking gas explosion



BHAKTAPUR: The restaurant operator, who sustained critical injuries in a cooking gas cylinder exploded at a momo outlet in Srijananagar of Suryabinayak municipality-5 five days ago, has passed away.

Tikaram Basnet, 39, the proprietor of Bhimeshwor momo outlet, succumbed to his injuries in the course of treatment at Kirtipur Burn Center Hospital this morning, informed DSP Dipak Giri, the spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur.

Originally from Sailung rural municipality-6, Dolakha, currently staying at Suryabinayak-4, Dadhikot, Basnet had been running a restaurant on the first floor of Shivlal Kaspal’s four-story building in Bhaktapur.

Six people including Basnet had been injured in the cooking gas explosion on March 21.

According to Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur, other injured in the incident are Rajendra Karki, 33, of  Koteshwor, Kathmandu, Gita Karki, 39, customers Aditya Subedi, 19, of Bishwoshanti rural municipality-2, Jhapa, currently staying at Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, Bikash Paudel, and Himangshu Thapa, 16 of Suryabinayak-5, Bhaktapur, Katunje.

The injured are receiving treatment at Dr. Iwamura Hospital, Sallaghari and Madhyapur Timi Hospital, said police. Of the injured, the condition of Rajendra and Gita is said to be critical.
