NIC slaps Rs 5,000 fine to Chair Pokharel

KATHMANDU: The National Information Commission has fined Rs 5,000 to the Chairperson of the Recruitment Committee of the Nepal Open University, Raj Kumar Pokharel.

A bench comprising Chief Information Officer of the Commission, Mahendraman Gurung, and commissioners Kamala Oli and Ratna Prasad Mainali on Monday decided to fine Chair Pokharel in line with Article 31 (1) of Right to Information Act-2064 BS, citing Chair Pokharel failed to provide the information sought.

Information Officer of the Commission, Bishwo Bandhu Poudel, said that the decision was taken on the basis of the appeal of Ram Prasad Dahal of Sindhupalchowk.

Dahal had asked certified copy of the answer-sheet of the exam conducted by Open University for the post of Associate Professor of Development Management and Administration subject under the contract category around one-and-half years ago.

Dahal knocked on the door of the Commission after he did not get information within the deadline determined by the Act.
