Budget and budget system are in trouble: Finance Minister Sharma

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said that Nepal’s budget and budget system are in trouble.

Speaking at a program on public-private partnership in economic rejuvenation organized by Nepalese Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Minister Sharma remarked that it is difficult for the revenue to cover the current expenditure.

He added that the budget system of the country has reached at difficult juncture due to the inability to manage the existing things.

“The government is continuing its efforts to facilitate the economic recovery in the post-COVID economic recovery,” the Finance Minister said, adding, “We are striving to provide the relief package sought by private sector. Though our relief is below the expectation, we are trying to complete it.”

Stating that the role of private sector in the economic development of the country is commendable, he urged the private sector to cooperate with the government in the establishment of big infrastructure.
