BAGLUNG: Thirty thousand people are estimated to be affected by landslides in Baglung district this year. Similarly, 28 local administrative wards are at high risk, 24 wards are at medium risk and eight wards are at low risk.

The population at risk has been determined by estimating the different degrees of landslide risk, the District Disaster Management Committee said.

The Committee has also prepared the ‘Monsoon Emergency Action Plan- 2021’ with the beginning of the monsoon. According to this Action Plan, most parts of the district would be affected by landslides.

It is stated that 3,400 to 4,000 houses will likely suffer damage due to the landslide and mudslide in the district. Community schools are also at risk. It is stated that 20 community school buildings face possible risk from landslides.

The action plan has been prepared for facilitating the post-monsoon disaster response, rehabilitation, and relief work.

Chief District Officer Shiva Kumar Karki said disaster management-related works are being carried out at all levels.

He said the Committee has also directed all the stakeholders at the local units to be prepared in disaster risk reduction, management, and mitigation, taking the Action Plan as the guideline.
