BJP leader Chauthaiwale pays courtesy call on PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, chief of the Foreign Affairs Department of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has met Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar Sunday.

Dr. Chauthaiwale, who is on a four-day unofficial visit to Kathmandu, is a high-ranking Indian leader to arrive here since PM Deuba assumed office.

It should be noted that Dr. Chauthaiwale had also met Deuba a few months ago (prior to Deuba being PM) when he arrived here at the invitation of CPN-UML leader Bishnu Poudel. Moreover, Dr. Chauthaiwale also congratulated PM Deuba over the telephone after Deuba became PM.

Dr. Chauthaiwale also held a discussion with former Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat on Nepal-India relations and the expansion of ties between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the BJP.

Dr. Chauthaiwale is also scheduled to hold talks with UML Chairman KP Oli and Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, among other top leaders.
