 Nepal floods: 24 killed in Pradesh 1 alone, 8 missing

BIRATNAGAR: As many as 24 people have died and eight others went missing due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains in Pradesh 1.

Until 11 am today, the number of deaths from landslides and floods has reached 24. Six men, nine women and nine minors are among those killed, said Nabin Raj Rai, the spokesperson of Pradesh 1 Police Office, Biratnagar.

According to Rai, nine died in Ialam, six in Panchathar, one in Udayapur, six in Dhankuta and two in Sunsari.

Eight people have gone missing in the province. Police said a search operation is underway for the missing.

Jhapa, Sunsari and Moran districts in the Terai have after affected by inundation.

As many as 150 people were rescued from various parts of Sunsari on Tuesday night.  Similarly, hundreds of houses in Biratnagar 1, 2, 7, 8, 11, 12, 15, 17 and 18 have submerged in flood waters in Morang district and around 500 people have been rescued.
