KATHMANDU: As many as 67 mountaineers have successfully climbed Mt Annapurna during this spring.
The number of mountaineers has climbed to 67 after six Nepali women including journalist Purnima Shrestha scaled 8,091-meter tall Mt Annapurna located at Annapurna rural municipality-4, Narchyang on April 16.
The other climbers included Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, Sharmila Shentan, and Dawabuti Sherpa. They were the first Nepali women to climb Mt Annapurna.
It had taken them six days to reach atop Mt Annapurna from the base camp, according to Pemba Sherpa, a team member.
They were able to reach the top at 1:30 pm on Friday (April 16) despite a lot of difficulties and risks involved, said mountaineer Shrestha.
French citizens Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal were the first mountaineers to reach atop Mt Annapurna. They had scaled the mountain peak on June 3, 1950.
