KATHMANDU: The government has struck an agreement with women rights activist Ruby Khan, who was staging a hunger strike for more than one week at Maitighar Mandala, Tuesday.
As per the agreement reached, the government has agreed to form a six-member investigation committee led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Hiralal Regmi. The committee is to submit a report within seven days.
With the signing of the agreement, activist Khan also ended her strike as a former member of the National Human Rights Commission Mohana Ansari and Home Ministry Spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokharel offered her juice.
One of activist Khan’s demands was the immediate transfer of Banke Superintendent of Police Shyam Krishna Adhikari. However, Home Ministry officials, while taking Khan’s demand positively, said action would be taken against anyone found guilty.
As many as 14 people, including 11 women, walked for 20 days from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu seeking justice after they were dissatisfied with the police investigation into two incidents of violence in Nepalgunj.
