SC orders govt to take initiatives to save lives of former Gurkha soldiers in UK



KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an order in the name of the government to take initiatives to save the lives of Gurkha soldiers who are staging a hunger strike in the UK demanding equal pension rights as that of British soldiers.

A bench of Justice Deepak Kumar Karki ordered the government to do everything possible to save the lives of Nepalis in the UK and ensure their demands are met.

The court issued the order in the name of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Stating that there is no dispute that the government was responsible to protect the lives of the citizens, the Supreme Court said that the government should pay immediate attention to the issue of former Gurkha soldiers in UK.
