LONDON: Floods and landslides across Europe have killed at least 180 people and left more than 1,500 unaccounted for since Sunday morning.

The floods have damaged thousands of homes and rendered many homeless.

Different rivers are changing their course and flowing in opposite directions, for the first time after thousand years, an official with the German Meteorological Agency said.

The worst-hit state is Germany’s Rhineland-Palatinate where 110 people have lost their lives. At least 45 people have been killed in the northern Rhine-Westphalia state, international news reports said.

Similarly, 27 people have lost their lives in the floods in Belgium. The search for the missing continues.
