KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Federal Affairs and General Administration has directed former civil service trade unions and organizations to vacate buildings and other structures constructed on government-owned land within three days.
According to the ministry, the legal basis for the organizations’ use of government land ended after the government abolished the civil service trade union system. The affected organizations had previously operated as national-level civil service trade unions and had built or occupied structures on state-owned property.
The ministry said the Cabinet has already decided to revoke the relevant arrangements, while the Department of Labour and Occupational Safety has cancelled the registration of the concerned trade unions.
In a public notice, the ministry instructed the organizations to completely vacate the buildings and other structures within three days of the notice’s publication. They have also been asked to hand over all documents, assets under their responsibility, and the keys to the buildings to the ministry’s Internal Management Division.
The ministry warned that if the structures are not vacated within the stipulated timeframe, legal action will be initiated in accordance with prevailing laws.
It also said notices have been posted on the buildings concerned in the presence of the respective District Administration Offices.
The organizations named in the notice include the Independent Civil Servants’ Organization, Nepal Madhesi Civil Servants’ Forum, Nepal Civil Servants’ Organization, Nepal Civil Servants’ Union, Nepal National Civil Servants’ Organization, Unified Government Employees’ Organization Nepal, Nepal Health Workers’ Association, and Madhesi Health Workers’ Forum Nepal.
