KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has clarified that there is currently no public health risk related to hantavirus in Nepal, following the spread of misinformation and rumors about the virus on social media and other platforms.
According to the ministry, there has been no evidence of community transmission or any outbreak of hantavirus in the country to date.
The ministry also stated that the World Health Organization (WHO), which continues to monitor global health threats, has not reported any hantavirus-related incident posing a public health risk.
Urging the public not to be misled by unverified information circulating online, the ministry advised people to rely only on health updates issued through official and credible sources, including the Ministry of Health and Food Safety.
Health officials warned that creating, sharing, or amplifying false information could cause unnecessary public panic and called on everyone to share health-related information responsibly.
The ministry further assured that any emerging public health threat would be communicated promptly through official channels.
