Landslide blocks Marsyangdi river, poses risk to settlement

KATHMANDU: The flow of Marsyangdi River has been disrupted after a landslide fell over the river along the border of Chame Rural Municipality-4 and 5.

According to Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane, the landslide has blocked the river, posing a threat to the Chame Bazar. The river has been blocked near a bridge connecting the Chame Bazar.

Rainfall is taking place incessantly, further increasing the risk of disaster. A large dam has formed with the river blockage. Settlement on the opposite of Chame Bazar has been already inundated.

The flood triggered by incessant rains has led to the soil erosion near a sole Bailey bridge connecting Chame to the upper Manang.

Though the district administration has already sought the help of Nepal Army to burst the dam, incessant rains have aborted the efforts towards that end. Chame folks have been urged to stay alert towards the possibility of any untoward incident from the disaster, according to the CDO.
