Open or not to open: School administrators in Hamletian dilemma in Valley

KATHMANDU: With the risk of COVID-19 still not subsiding, there has confusion about whether to open a school in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to Rabin Basnet, the secretary of the Private and Boarding Schools Organization of Nepal (PABSON) Kathmandu, there is confusion over whether to open a school in the Valley as there is still risk of coronavirus and the government has also told the stakeholders not to open a school in a hurry.

PABSON has not yet taken a decision in this regard. According to Basnet, the school is ready to open only after assessing the risk.

He said that necessary decision should be taken in coordination with the school, parents and all concerned stakeholders.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Information Officer Basanta Acharya informed that they are preparing to study the risk of coronavirus in the next few days and take necessary decision by holding a meeting on September 20.

A seven-member committee has been formed to prepare criteria and decide on the operation of schools in the Metropolis.

Lalitpur Metropolitan City is preparing to open a school from Sunday. However, most of the large school administrators are not in favor of opening schools.
