Four among 20 missing in Melamchi floods come into contact; one found dead



KATHMANDU: Four people among 20 missing in the Melamchi floods in Sindhupalchowk district have come into contact.

One body of a person has been found this morning, said Assistant Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sindhupalchowk Baburam Khanal.

The deceased has been identified as a Chinese national working for Sinohydro project but his name is yet to be identified, according to Khanal.

According to District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk, two Chinese nationals working for Melamchi project, three Indians and two Nepali nationals. Besides, eight locals have gone missing, said DAO, Sindhupalchowk.

A search operation is underway. A total of 74 people were rescued through a chopper on Wednesday.

Out of five injured, four are receiving treatment at the hospital. One of them is receiving treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital while the other three are undergoing treatment at B and B hospital, Lalitpur.

According to him, four motor bridges, and five suspension bridges have been swept away.

Similarly, seven fish farms located nearby the river have been washed away.

As many 600 locals from Melamchi municipality and 300 from Helambu rural municipality have been affected by the floods, said DAO.
