Nepal-Khanal faction differs with Oli camp’s withdrawal in Karnali Province

KATHMANDU: Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal faction of the CPN-UML has announced that the UML has not withdrawn its support to the Maoist Center-led government in Karnali Province.

Earlier Wednesday, a meeting of the UML (KP Oli camp) provincial parliamentary party decided to withdraw its support. Likewise, the meeting had also decided to recall its three ministers in the government led by Karnali Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi.

However, Karnali Province Minster of Economic Affairs and Projects Prakash Jwala, close to Nepal-Khanal camp, said the decision taken earlier was the decision of the Oli camp and not the party’s decision.

“The meeting that took place earlier was of Oli faction. That meet was not in accordance with existing laws, procedures and processes,” said provincial Minister Jwala. “We disagree with decisions taken in such meeting that was called without prior information,” he added.

“That wasn’t the official meeting of UML provincial parliamentary party, and support to the government led by CM Shahi was intact,” Jwala said.

There are a total of 40 members in Karnali Province Assembly. Of the total, 20 were elected from the UML and 13 from Maoist Center.

Maoist Center needs support of eight provincial lawmakers of other parties to lead the government in Karnali.
