NUWAKOT: Five people have been arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from the body of a woman who died in the Bhotekoshi flood in Sirkhali, Bidur Municipality–3, Nuwakot, on August 26.
The District Police Office, Nuwakot, arrested five local residents from Sirkhali four days ago. Those arrested have been identified as Dipesh Bhujel, Suresh Rimal, Dinesh Pandit, Nirajan Thapa Magar and Rajesh Rimal, all from Bidur Municipality–3.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and spokesperson for the District Police Office, Nuwakot, Ekbal Hawari, said the five are being investigated on allegations of removing gold jewellery from the woman’s body. The police have obtained a five-day remand from the district court and are continuing their investigation.
While the investigation is underway, some political party leaders have reportedly pressured authorities to release the suspects. A similar incident involving the theft of jewellery from a flood victim’s body was also reported in Chitwan following the Bhotekoshi flood.
On August 27, police arrested Madan Gurung and Umesh Chaudhary from the Pokhara Bus Park area of Bharatpur Metropolitan City–1 for allegedly removing jewellery from a deceased person’s body.
Bodies of people who died in the Bhotekoshi flood have continued to be recovered in Nuwakot. According to Nepal Police, the body of a woman who died in the Bhotekoshi flood was recovered in Bidur Municipality–3.
