Faith in judiciary depends on independence, fair verdict: Nahakul Subedi

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court (SC) nominee Justice Nahakul Subedi has said people’s faith in the judiciary depends on unbiased quality verdicts and their effective implementation.

While appearing for his hearing in front of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee Friday, Subedi said judicial credibility stands on public faith, and that faith is maintained by the court’s operations, quality of verdicts and implementation.

He reasoned independent and objective verdicts of the judiciary will help to maintain and increase public faith in the system.

“To gain people’s faith, courts must issue autonomous and objective verdicts and ensure implementation on part of subjects concerned. A judge’s unbiased verdicts earn respect for the system.” Subedi said.

He is of the view that justices ought to give just orders in every case for the sake of justice in society and cannot be excused for unjust verdicts at any cost.

The parliamentary hearing committee (PHC) unanimously endorsed nominee justices Nahakul Subedi and Kumar Chudal to Supreme Court (SC) Friday.
