7 secretaries retiring this year, 21 joint secretaries in the race for promotion



KATHMANDU: Seven government secretaries are retiring by mid-July this year.

Five joint secretaries are vying for the vacant posts after Gandaki Chief Secretary Bishnu Prasad Nepal got mandatory retirement on Monday.

Joint Secretaries Damodar Regmi, Krishna Bahadur Rawat, Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Krishna Hari Puskar, and Madhusudan Burlakoti are aspiring for the post of secretaries.

Regmi is currently in the Ministry of Health and Population, while Rawat is in the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Likewise, Pandey is in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, and Burlakoti in the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Similarly, Pushkar is in the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

A meeting of the promotion committee chaired by Public Service Commission Chairman Umesh Prasad Mainali is being held on Tuesday.

An official said the cabinet meeting will promote an individual to the post of secretary on the recommendation of the promotion committee as per the legal provision to recommend the names of three joint secretaries in the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers approves the name of one of the three based on seniority and performance appraisal.
