KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Federal Council Chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has proposed to make a distinguished citizen or retired judge the President of the country.
Claiming that republic has become fragile due to the poor performance of the President, JSP leader Dr. Bhattarai remarked that it’s high time to go to reconsider the agenda of directly elected head of the state.
“In the situation where the role and status of the constitutional presidents of the Republic of Nepal is very weak and low, it seems better to go for a directly elected executive presidential system!” Bhattarai said in his Twitter message on Thursday, adding, “Until then, in the interim period, will it not be better to make a distinguished citizen or a retired judge the President rather than spoiling the system through an active leader of the party?”
