Four ex-CJs appear before SC with written clarification on contempt of court case

Say they stand firm that HoR dissolution was unconstitutional

KATHMANDU: Four former Chief Justices (CJs) facing a contempt of court case have appeared before the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday.

Ex-CJs Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anupraj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha, and Sushila Karki appeared before the apex court in person and submitted a written clarification as sought by the court.

They have clarified that the issue of dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR), which is a question of public concern, would be of direct concern not only to the plaintiffs and defendants of the issue but also to other individuals, society, and the nation as a whole.

They added that they firmly stand to their earlier remarks that House dissolution was unconstitutional.

Contempt of court case was filed against four former chief justices after a joint statement was issued calling the dissolution of the House of Representatives unconstitutional.

During the preliminary hearing, a bench of Justice Manoj Sharma had ordered to appear in person within seven days apart from the time limit and submit a written reply.
