Valley CDOs meeting today to extend lockdown

Upcoming lockdown likely to be stricter

KATHMANDU: The government is making preparations to extend the prohibitory order with stricter restrictions.

The chief district officers (CDOs) of three districts of the Kathmandu Valley are holding a meeting today to take a decision to this effect.

The meeting will take place at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu at 2 pm.

“The upcoming prohibitory needs to be more scientific and systematic since the COVID-19 cases are increasing, of late,” said CDO of Lalitpur Dhundi Prasad Niraula, adding, “The decisions are likely to be stricter which will bar people from organizing training sessions, assemblies and crowds.”

The ongoing prohibitory order is expiring on Wednesday night. Hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley have been filled with COVID patients, with the infection cases increasing, of late.

The lockdown which was imposed on April 29 has been relaxed for the past one month. With the relaxation on the order, all the shops and means of transport have been operating except for schools, temples and night clubs.

With the COVID-19 case-graph going up for the last few days, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had urged people not to come out of their houses unless it is urgent to curb the pandemic.
