KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee meeting of the main opposition Nepali Congress has taken up discussions ranging from preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention to a review of the government’s first 100 days in office.
The meeting, held at the BP Smriti Bhawan at the party’s central office in Lalitpur on Sunday under the chairmanship of party President Gagan Kumar Thapa, discussed contemporary political developments and the party’s future strategy.
General Secretary Pradeep Paudel presented various proposals for discussion. Preparations for the 15th General Convention have been listed as the major agenda of the meeting.
The meeting will discuss the rules and election directives required for the convention, updating and distribution of party membership, and the formation of the General Convention Preparatory Committee and Statute Drafting Committee.
The formation of subcommittees for publicity, food and accommodation, and stage management for the convention is also on the agenda. The meeting will also consider endorsing decisions taken by the Central Executive Committee.
According to Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal, recent developments in the Terai-Madhes region and measures to maintain social harmony have also been given priority in the discussions.
The meeting will also discuss the role the Nepali Congress should play both inside and outside Parliament as the main opposition party.
As the government completes 100 days in office, the party will review its activities and formulate its position on political developments going forward.
The meeting will also discuss the political situation emerging in provincial governments, endorse Central Committee decisions related to membership management, and deliberate on the Nepali Jana Samparka Samitis, the statutes of sister organisations and other contemporary political issues.
The Central Working Committee meeting will continue on Monday at 1 pm at the party’s central office, according to the Nepali Congress.
