WE united project kicks off WE Coach Nepal Project 



KATHMANDU: The WE United Project, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu, launched the WE Coach Nepal project.

The project will use football as a platform to empower young women to become leaders and active participants in their communities.

The WE Coach Nepal Project will train twelve young women from Dhangadi, Surkhet, and Kathmandu as football coaches.

Coaches-in-Training will be mentored by alumni of WE United Programs and supported to form girls’ football teams directly engaging over 120 young women.

Speaking during the virtual launch event, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu Manuel Micaller said, “Women in sports accelerates gender equality. By empowering young women and girls through sports, they are given a chance to discover their potential, to build important social skills, and to learn the value of being a good sport, whether you win or lose.”

Likewise, the President of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Karma Tsering Sherpa reiterated their commitment to promote women’s empowerment through sports.

The virtual event brought together leaders from the sports sector as well as allies for women’s empowerment, including representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Nepal Sports Council, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA); women’s national team players, and referees; and development and business partners.
