Lawyers to ensure CJ’s graceful exit if he resigns

KATHMANDU: Protesting lawmakers have said that they will ensure Chief Justice (CJ) Cholendra Shamsher Rana’s graceful exit if he resigned today.

Law practitioners led by the Nepal Bar Association staged a sit-in at the Supreme Court on Monday as well demanding the resignation of CJ Rana.

Addressing a corner meeting, legal practitioners said that the Chief Justice should pave the way for strengthening the judiciary.

Raman Kumar Karna, a former member of the Nepal Bar Association, said, “What can be more humiliating than judges demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice?”

Karna said they would give a farewell to CJ Rana if he stepped down soon.

Similarly, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi alleged Chief Justice Rana for pushing the judiciary into a crisis.

“The judiciary has been disrespected because of the CJ,” he said.

Tripathi said, “As long as he stays in the post, it would be an insult to the post.”

He added, “The sooner he resigns, the better for everyone.”

Similarly, Vice President of the Bar Association Ishwori Prasad Bhattarai said that it was a matter of sorrow for the political parties to remain silent in such a crisis.
