4 CRPF personnel killed after colleague opens fire in India’s Chhattisgarh



NEW DELHI: As many as four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and three others injured after a soldier opened fire on fellow soldiers in India’s Chhattisgarh.

In a case of fratricide, the jawan, identified as Reetesh Ranjan, opened fire on fellow soldiers at around 3.45 am in the camp of the CRPF 50th battalion in Linganpalli village under Maraiguda police station of the area of the district, India Today has said.

The jawan fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, an AK-47 rifle, Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said, according to India Today report.

Seven personnel were seriously injured in the incident and were immediately rushed to Bhadrachalam area hospital for treatment. Four of them succumbed to their injuries.

Two injured CRPF personnel are reportedly being airlifted to Raipur for treatment.

“The motive behind the firing is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is on into the incident,” the official said.

Constable Reetesh Ranjan was immediately held and his interrogation is underway, the official said.

Following the incident, the CRPF has ordered a court of inquiry to investigate the matter.
