NSU lashes out at govt for hiking petro prices

KATHMANDU: Nepal Student Union (NSU), a student wing of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), has lashed out at the government for hiking the prices of petroleum products.

Talking to Khabarhub, NSU’s General Secretary Baldev Timalsina said people in general will not afford the frequent hike in the prices of petroleum products.

“Already hit by COVID-19 pandemic, the price hike in the daily essential petroleum products has incurred further woes to the people,” said Timalsina.

Meanwhile, he warned that the NSU will hit the streets if the decision to hike the prices of petroleum products is not withdrawn immediately.

Earlier on June 23, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the state oil monopoly, had increased the price of petroleum products.

The NOC increased the price of petrol, diesel and kerosene by Rs 2 per liter effective from Tuesday night.

With the new price adjustment, the cost of petrol will be Rs 129 per liter and diesel Rs 112 per liter.
