NRNA Portugal Treasure suspended for selling fake airline tickets



KATHMANDU: Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Portugal has taken action against the Association’s treasurer on the charge of selling fake airline tickets.

The NRNA, Portugal suspended Treasurer Bikram Jang Kunwar after he was found to be selling fake air tickets.

The incident came to the fore after 11 Nepali nationals who booked tickets from Kunwar’s Laxmi Travels based in the capital city Lisbon and approached the desk at the airport for boarding passes.

The staff members at the airport returned the tickets saying that the airline tickets carried by them were fake.

The victims had then lodged a complaint at the police and expressed their grievances by organizing a press meet participated by representatives of the Nepali community.

Acting on the complaint, Portugal Police also raided Laxmi Travels and seized various documents.

The 11 customers had booked the airline tickets for Rs 620 Euro (Rs 70,000) per head from Turkish Airlines, said Bijaya Dhimal of Bhaktapur, a victim, who has been staying in Portugal.

Kunwar said he was obliged to do so since the company that issues airline tickets to his travels has been blacklisted.
