MCC will move forward after U.S. govt clarifies concerns raised in public: NC leader Mahat

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Joint General Secretary Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact will move forward only after the U.S. government clarified the concerns raised about the agreement.

Speaking at a function in Kathmandu on Saturday, Mahat said, “The public raised a number of issues about MCC. The government is taking initiative to get clarification on those issues. I think there will be consensus after clear clarification arrives about those issues.”

The government has written to the US government asking for clarification on the controversial issues in MCC. Mahat said the project would move ahead after the US government’s clarification will allay concerns about it.

On a different note, Mahat said the expansion of the cabinet was delayed as the ruling coalition parties, the CPN Unified Socialist and the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) could not finalize ministers. He added the cabinet would expand as soon as the name of the ministers is received.
