No more umbrellas at New Road’s ‘Umbrella Street’

KATHMANDU: The umbrellas placed in the newly-famed ‘Umbrella Street’ in New Road have been removed following a disorderly crowd.

The streets leading to the Sankata Temple were adorned with colorful umbrellas for the purpose of boosting people’s movement for increasing the trade impacted by the coronavirus.

However, the umbrellas were removed due to an uncontrollable crowd, said Ashish Man Singh, Secretary of the Sankata Club.

There were 430 umbrellas on the street that stretches for about 150 meters. Around 15,000 people used to visit the streets daily.

The street quickly gained fame after photos and videos of the street got viral on social media.
