Search for three missing French climbers underway in Everest region

KATHMANDU: Three French climbers have gone missing in an avalanche in the Everest region and search for them is underway.

According to Ang Norbu Sherpa, president of the Nepal Mountain Guide Association, they went missing after hit by an avalanche on Sunday afternoon. The missing have been identified as Thomas Arfi, Gabriel Miloche and Louis Pachoud.

According to the association, trained mountain guides have been deployed to search for them. They are reported missing near Ama Dablam peak in Khumbu area.

A chopper of Kailash Helicopter Services dropped rescuers near the location they were last spotted for ground search and the chopper is continuing aerial search.

Helicopter pilot Claudio Stefan Mittner informed that a climbers’ tent was found near the Minbo La Glacier below Ama Dablam peak. The search is being carried out in coordination with the French Embassy in Kathmandu.
