Lalita Niwas case: Wife of main accused released on Rs 200,000 bail

KATHMANDU: Umakumari Dhakalni, wife of land broker Shobha Kant Dhakal, has been released on bail in the Lalita Niwas land grab case.

Dhakal is the main accused in the scam in which the government land was transferred in the name of individuals.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a case against Dhakalni at Special Court in Kathmandu demanding a fine of Rs 9.12 million.

She appeared before the court on Thursday. The court released her on a bail bond of Rs 200,000 after concluding the bail hearing.

A bench of Justices Prem Raj Karki, Abdul Aziz Musalman, and Nityananda Pandey released her on bail.

Earlier, the court had remanded ex-CIAA Chief Commissioner Deep Basnyat to judicial custody.

The anti-graft body had filed a case at Special Court in Kathmandu against 175 people including Basnyat for the scam in which the government’s land was transferred into the name of individuals.
