KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the party must restore the moral authority and identity it has gradually lost in society.
Speaking at the launch of Buddha, BP and Today’s Leaders and the Little Men of Lilliput, a book written by Nepali Congress General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire, in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Thapa said discussions about past political events and leaders are natural, but the party’s key challenge is to regain the moral standing it once enjoyed.
He said the Nepali Congress must emerge from what he described as the “dark decade” between 2072 and 2082 to rebuild its credibility and public trust.
Thapa argued that the party had spent the past 10 years chasing power and political positions at the expense of its principles and values.
He also said grassroots members and young leaders from ordinary backgrounds are working to make the Nepali Congress relevant again by embracing the ideals and values of the party’s founding leaders.
Thapa pledged his full support to young party members committed to steering the party back onto the right path.
